my two cents...
This is an interesting debate. The true implications of Cathy's stranglehold runs deeper than politics and backroom deals. I think every director on this site fancys him/herself an artist in some capacity and an attack on Pellows regeim vilfeys her directors artistic integrity. In other words if Lex and Haki, etc recieve their commisions through a form of nepotism than their writing/ideas (whether competent or not) have not stood the true test. Of course this line of thinking is complete bull because even if we were all competing on an equal footing the ultimate desicion lies in the hands of 2nd rate musicians and increasingly less daring music executives.
The fact is we aren't living in the early 90's and music videos are no longer a form of art. They no longer hold sway as the poetry of the advertisting world. YOU ARE NOT GONDREY OR JONZE OR GLAZER and you never will be because the economic systems that allowed for artisty in our field in the past have dried up.
Is it good business for Cathy to give all of her commisons to her directors? Yes! Is it promoting good work? Good art? well urmmmm it's all very competent but non of it pushes the boundries that we all strive to push. My intention is not to indite Refused directors as a whole it is merley to point out that we are operating in the the tailend of a short lived cultural renassiance.
Most of you will be obsolete in 3 years. You are all swimming around in a shark tank. Kids do not watch music videos anymore and who can blame them. Video games are much cooler.
So I ask you what are you mad about? The fact that you aren't working enough or the fact that there is no room for creativity in our feild...or both.
You know you are in trouble when the new "daring" video is yet another stop motion vid or 5 dudes skipping around on a bunch of treadmills.
