Thanks for the link, Kev. The world of music has changed (duh) since MTV started. Music fans back in the mid-80s were so eager to see videos that they would sit through other clips they didn't like in order to get the vids they DID like. Van Halen fans waited out Hall & Oates to see "Jump" (or "Hot For Teacher" - heheh boobies).
No one waits for anything - media wise. Nobody wants to sit through R&B to see emo. Hell, even on channels like BET or MTV-RAWK the audiences won't sit still for particular songs (even within their favored genre) to get to one they like. Today, fans click on line to get their favorite videos on demand.
Older fans will not watch the same MTV that younger fans want to see and vice versa. Even Nickelodeon has a variety of channels that viewers can age through, from baby, to elelementary school to tween and so on.
There is no "one size fits all" channel/media outlet for anyone, ESPECIALLY not the ficklest of the fickle - young music fans who follow trends like for a few weeks/months only to ditch them when the new shiny thing rolls along.
MTV as a the Colossus astride the music industry is gone - and there was little MTV could do about that. Times change.
