Lets consider the alternative scenerio: Tom sends track out to 20 directors, then has a smaller group rewrite 4-5 times only to be no closer than he was when he started, perhaps Razorlight is being difficult. At this point Tom is now out of time so he suggests that he directs. He is a director, has been for many years, and he's likely friends with Razorlight. He knows better than anyone what the band wants. It certainly sucks to lose a job to the commissioner but it definitely happens.

"Dropped" or "left" is kind of irrelevant - sometimes how you see it is a matter of timing...I spoke up when certain things went certain ways, and we amicably agreed that we'd move on.
I was very very busy at Spy, and, for the most part, very happy.
Richard and Stephen worked hard and so did I. Though we didn't see eye to eye on a few things, I'd say that there was a level of mutual respect in that environment that kept us all working for some time.
For what it's worth - I'd say I "left" to keep my friendship with Richie alive and healthy, and to help preserve the integrity of my work, and my work ethic.
At any rate, Spy and I kept each other busy.
